Meet with Sheryl

Sheryl Rae Ghezzi is a partner at Stern Mendez with extensive experience handling complex divorce and family law matters, particularly cases involving high-net-worth individuals and sophisticated financial issues. Her practice encompasses the valuation and division of marital and non-marital property, allocation of parental responsibilities, child support and educational expenses, spousal maintenance, post-decree matters, parentage and prenuptial planning.

Throughout her 40+ year career, Sheryl has successfully navigated complex financial matters involving professional practices, closely held businesses, commercial real estate and other significant assets. She approaches every case individually, taking the time to understand each client’s priorities and develop a strategy tailored to their circumstances and long-term goals.

Sheryl believes in exploring every reasonable opportunity to reach an amicable resolution while remaining fully prepared to litigate when necessary. Communication and collaboration are central to her approach. She keeps clients informed throughout the process, encourages them to participate actively in developing their case strategy, and works closely with them to pursue outcomes that reflect what matters most to them.

In addition to representing clients, Sheryl has spent more than 25 years representing children by appointment of the Circuit Court of Cook County. She frequently shares her experience with others in the legal profession, lecturing locally and nationally on family law, child custody, legal ethics, civility and professionalism. She is also committed to mentoring law students and young attorneys and has earned longstanding recognition and respect within the legal community.

Sheryl brings decades of experience, a highly individualized approach, and a commitment to thoughtful advocacy to the Stern Mendez team. Outside of work, Sheryl is a lifelong equestrian who also enjoys golfing and collecting art. She is also a proud Nonna and enjoys spending time with her family.

Education & Experience

Sheryl received her J.D. from the John Marshall Law School, now known as the University of Illinois Chicago School of Law. She earned her B.A. in psychology and political science from Lake Forest College in Illinois.
